China win Asian Basketball Championships
They controlled the game in front of a 7,000 strong capacity crowd in Changsha, Hunan province, with Yi Jianlian and 19 year-old, 2.17 metre-tall Zhou Qi among the scorers.
Despite initially falling behind, China quickly fought back to go in ahead at half time. Though the Philippines threatened a fight back, cutting the deficit to eight points, China held on to take the crown.
After claiming victory, former NBA power forward Yi Jianlian was awarded the Most Valuable Player prize, averaging 16.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
In qualifying, China join hosts Brazil, favourites the USA and European champions Spain in next summer's tournament.
