Mass Fruit Theft in New Zealand

 
 

People in New Zealand are going avocado mad!

 

A huge surge in the fruits popularity and price has sparked mass thefts causing a crime wave across the country.

 

According to The BBC, thieves are targeting orchards using rakes to pick avocados straight from the tree and into their pockets.

 

40 large-scale thefts have been reported from the Northern part of the country, with as many as 350 of them stolen at any one time.

 

The fruits sell for around $4-6 in New Zealand – which is around £2-£3 each compared to around £1 in the UK.
