Pharrell Williams and Jessie J are among the stars attending Alibaba’s Double 11 Gala this Friday, gbtimes reports.
Grammy winner Pharrell will team up with Chinese-Canadian singer Kris Wu to perform an original song called Happy Double 11 at this year’s glitzy gala in Shanghai on 10th November. He’ll also perform a classic Chinese song, called 在那遥远地方 (In That Distant Place), with renowned classical pianist Lang Lang.
UK star Jessie J will perform her first number-one single Price Tag, perhaps an ironic song choice for the world’s biggest online shopping festival.
Russian professional tennis player Maria Sharapova, NBA basketball star LeBron James, retired FIFA World Player of the Year Luís Figo and famous Chinese actor Zhang Ziyi are also on the guestlist, which includes more than 100 Chinese and international celebrities.
Alibaba holds the gala every year as part of the ‘Double 11 Festival’. 11th November or ‘Double 11’ was originally known as Singles Day in China, but the Chinese tech giant trademarked the event in 2009 as a shopping event similar to Black Friday.
